Reno, Nevada

The Northwest Reno Library was created by remodeling a 32,000 SF industrial building, which happened to be available and ideally located for the project. The building was completely gutted and a new library installed reflecting the patterns of the surrounding mountains. The original design team goals; to Awaken America's Future, provide, Transparent Management, create a Self Advertising Exterior, emphasize Function over Form and provide Self Revealing Interiors were achieved. The new library includes a children's area, extensive electronic information systems, a gallery, a community room and a refreshment area. The circulation desk and adjacent work area controls security and has visual surveillance of the stacks through careful placement of low book stacks. A new entrance plaza improves access and marks the entry as an important community resource.
