Sparks, Nevada
Client: City of Sparks, Nevada Completion Date: May 1992 Cost: $5.3 million Building Area: 47,000 sf
Design services began with a system wide needs study which established the facility requirements for the next 20 years, the costs and recommended sites. Facility design began following a successful bond issue for $7 million, which included funds for the building, land and a new dispatch radio system. Design services were quite comprehensive, including landscaping, darkroom, interior and exterior security systems, interior design, furniture and the $1.3 million, 400 mhz radio system for the dispatch center. The project was completed on schedule and within the original $5.2 million budget. The Sparks Police services Center provides a total of 47,000 sf of space on a 6 acre site. The administrative building is 43,000 sf arranged in 3 stories. There is a 4,000 sf vehicle storage and wash building, a fueling system, and secure parking for police vehicles and employees. The basement floor, raised to avoid ground water and enjoy daylight, houses patrol operations, evidence storage, a darkroom and mechanical spaces. The main floor provides spaces for the public lobby, community meetings, records and patrol administration.
The second floor houses investigations, administration, community relations and the new Sparks 400 mhz emergency radio dispatch center.
