This project updated and expanded the capacity of the inpatient mental health hospital to comply with todays mental health practices and future growth. Two improvement strategies were developed: renovation of existing facilities to accomodate 84 patients and replacement with a new 90 bed building. The floor plan for the renovated inpatient facility was studied by the NMHI Planning Team and selected staff members.

They agreed that the renovated inpatient unit will provide a better healing environment, specialized and appropriate treatment spaces, more efficient back-to-back staff areas, treatment units which have more patient privacy, and supervised outdoor courtyards. The Nursing supervisors concluded that the new layout will be more efficient to operate, allowing nurses more time with patients.
